Our Lil' Monkey...errr, Chunkey Monkey

Eating Like A Champ!

If you've had a conversation with me in the past 2 months you know I have been pretty focused on "growing the baby" as the pediatrician and hospital staff advised. We officially switched to formula per the Lactation Specialist's advice a couple weeks ago which was an extremely hard decision & transition for me! Jude was all about it though and very obviously appreciates the easy flow the bottle offers! :-)
I've made many trips up to Baylor to just have him weighed for peace of mind this past month. Well, mission accomplished! He's eating like a champ and weighed in at 10.19 lbs (wearing his onesie) at his pediatrician appt last Friday (2/5). YAY! He's getting bigger everyday now it seems! He went from gaining nothing for 3 weeks to gaining nearly 2 lbs a week!! Way to go Jude!

  1. Oh, I'm so glad he's gaining weight, and I know how hard it is to not have things go as planned with nursing! When I was pregnant, I really thought I would try to nurse for six months. But four days after Eli was born, we found out I wasn't producing enough milk and HAD to start supplementing with formula. Eli gets about one or two breastmilk bottles a day, and the rest are formula. And I plan to quit pumping next week (after 9.5 weeks).

  2. It is SO hard! I most definitely have a new found respect for nursing moms since having Jude! I was the same way...if anyone could do it, I just knew I could...well, not the case. I breasfed only for 3 1/2 weeks but the poor guy was starving! I had no idea. I was giving him hours of nursing! We visited with the lactation specialist at BAYLOR a couple times as I produced less and less milk. I never produced more than 6 ounces in one day and typically more like 3-4 ounces. Anyways, w/o making this lengthy we opted for formula supplementing and have now gone to solely formula and it's working so much better which makes EVERYONE happy. :-) I'm so sorry you went thru the stresses of it all too. It looks like Eli is one very happy baby so you're doing it all right! ;-) XO
